Scientism & Pseudo...
Science, scientists, scientific discoveries and scientific theories have all been referred to as "Scientism" or "Pseudoscience" by the skeptics and conspiracy theorists, but what do they mean with that? Well, here is what the dictionary says:
-
Scientism Thought or expression regarded as characteristic of scientists. Excessive belief in the power of scientific knowledge and techniques.
-
Pseudoscience A collection of beliefs or practices mistakenly regarded as being based on scientific method.

As it may be clear, I do believe in the scientific method. Mainly because it has been proven to work. But, I wouldn't say I have an excessive believe in the power of scientific knowledge and techniques. As I have said before, I believe skepticism is a good thing. We shouldn't just believe what we are told. We should truly listen to what is being said and judge for ourselves if it is plausible or reliable. And when you doubt what you are told, you should look in to it properly.
But please... use some common sense when you do. There are Flat Earthers, even when the Earth is demonstrably a Globe. There are Pee-drinker, even when there are no demonstrable benefits to drinking or bathing in Human Waste. That is well beyond skepticism. When you find yourself denouncing modern day medicine, whilst trying to drink your own pee for the first time, maybe then it is time to wonder if it isn't you who has become the proponent of pseudoscience.
